Ardmore 12Y (1st Fill Oloroso) – 56.3%
This 12-year-old Ardmore has been given a 6 month finish, on a 1st Fill Oloroso Octave cask, before we got it bottled, at a cask strength of 56.3%.
The whisky itself, comes from one of our previous Cask Shares (#041 – Ardmore Puncheon), which we bottled in 2021.
Upon bottling the Puncheon cask, we filled this 1st Fill Oloroso Octave cask, with approx. 50L, to give it a good sherry finish.
At a cask sample at the end of April 2022, we agreed that it was time to get it bottled.
There is no doubt at all that there has been some more color to the whisky, and the taste (mums) has become smokier and rounder in the taste from the sherry cask.
In The Whiskey Bible 2023, Jim Murray has given this 12-year-old Ardmore with Oloroso Finish 89.5 points out of a possible 100 and mixedly wrote this about the bottling: Deliciously enjoyable whisky for sure, the delivery in particular
Customer comment: A dram of very fine standard – nice. Soft and round good fullness gives nice mouth watering.
